One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Again.

Review:

16 year old Kate has lived next door to Beau for more than half her life. They’re best friends spending all their time together and as they grow older those feelings change. They know they’re each other’s forever or that’s what they thought until one rainy night when Kate loses a piece of herself at the hands of the drunken all-star quarterback.

Ashamed of what’s happened to her Kate hides her terrible secret from everyone and pulls away from Beau, her friends, and her mother…..the only thing remaining is work, running, and memories. Beau waits for her knowing something has changed and wants to help her but doesn’t know how. She decides to hold off a year on going to college but sends Beau on his way; telling him to go and enjoy himself, find someone whole who can love him, find his happiness and live his life without her.

After saying a terribly sad good bye to Beau, Kate continues to live the shell of her life – working at the local diner and staying locked in her room hidden in her memories and fighting the terrible pain that comes with those memories. While working at the diner she encounters Asher – he’s mysterious, gorgeous, and apparently awe struck by Kate.

They quickly become friends, going fishing, watching movies, and just being kids – something Kate hasn’t done in two years. Asher who is hiding his own secrets and fears brings her out of her head long enough that she begins to feel things and feel human again. During an very poignant scene where they’ve gone fishing the sky opens up and rain begins to pour – Kate lets Asher in on her private hell; telling him exactly what happened but only after Asher told her one of his secrets. Together they try to heal each other and love each other. They give each other the second chances each of them deserves.

Beau doesn’t play as big of a part during the middle of this book so it doesn’t mention him much but after Asher’s second secret comes to light Beau reappears. He and Kate don’t immediately pick up where they left off – her wanting nothing but friendship and him being in love with her – but eventually they get close again and they give each other their second chances as well. Will they be each other’s forever like they initially thought? Is it possible to love two people at once? We all know life never happens the way you plan it; it often goes askew and we have to make the best of it.

This was a beautiful and heart wrenching book. The characters are wonderful and warm and likeable. There was some angst but mainly love and concern. I will say when you get ready to sit down and read this make sure you have some Kleenex stockpiled next to you. Add to your TBR shelf!!
