Catherine Pope got a second chance at love, only to have it ripped away—again. She should’ve known better.

But she dared to hope.

She refuses to let fate take the reins this time. Catherine decides she’s going to fight.

Jackson Cole risked it all.

He thought this time would be different.

With his loyalties pulling him in two directions—it’s time to make a choice…his past or his future.

Will they be beholden to their fears or will they both fight against their demons and finally find the love they both long for?

Our Review
5 Stars *****

We pick up with Cat and Jackson right where we left off in Beloved. That means right in the middle of a heart pounding, Oh My Eff’n God moment.  That’s right Corinne Michael’s is the queen of the “opening gut punch” (remember the beginning of Beloved. Dayum!).  Jackson is badly hurt in action and ends up in a hospital in Germany fighting for his life. Will he survive and if he does will he be the man he was before? Despite how they left things, Cat flies to his side.

But what then?

After all that has been said and done between them is there hope? Can they forgive each other and move on if he survives? What if he doesn’t even want her there? He walked away…

This is a story about rebuilding a relationship. Stripping it bare and building from the bottom up. Sometimes it takes a life or death situation for you to set aside all the bullshit and count what’s really important. It’s not easy for them by any means. Mix in both their emotional baggage from life before they met, failed relationships, bad choices and immeasurable guilt and it’s a hard road. As lies and secrets surface they have to reconcile what they have been through and find a way to move on together. Can they do that? Lies have torn Cat apart all her life and Jackson drops a big one on her… well a report does but it’s all on him. Is she strong enough to forgive now?

Heartbreaking choices have to be made. Friendships are strained. Love is tested.

This is the perfect conclusion to beautifully broken love story and a brilliant sophomore release by Ms. Michaels. The writing is superb. She really has a grip on the balance of angst, humor and sexy that a reader needs to stay completely enthralled in her story and characters. I am so looking forward to what she has in store for us in the future.

PS:  Mark is hilarious. Every girl needs an Ashton and Piper is a twunt!

Favorite Quotes:

“You broke my heart. You should’ve trusted me. I loved you with my whole being and should’ve heard this from you before everyone else. “

“If you love something, you have to let it go. I love you enough to let you go. Go live your dream, baby.”

“This is a struggle snuggle. Don’t fight it – it feels better if you let it happen.”

“Did you know a female ferret would die if it goes into heat and doesn’t find a man to satisfy her”

“You’re missing a key part to my engine, if you know what I mean”

“Nice, I’m retreating from a five-foot-two woman. I’m a pussy.”

Beloved (Book One in the Belonging Duet)

Not enough.

Catherine Pope has never been enough. Every man she has ever loved abandoned her—from her father to her fiancĂ©. She finally accepted the fact she would never be enough to hold any man’s heart and soul.

Then Catherine met Jackson Cole.

When her world literally collided with the sexy former Navy SEAL, everything she always believed is turned upside down and left scattered. He made her feel alive and desirable, consumed her with fierceness and loyalty—which completely unnerved her. Jackson got her in a way no one ever had, giving him the power to destroy her.

If she breaks down and gives him what’s left of her battered heart—will he protect it? Or will Catherine become an irrelevant part of yet another man’s life?

Will she get the one thing that has always evaded her – to finally be someone’s beloved?

Corinne is an emotional, witty, sarcastic, and fun loving mom of two beautiful children. She’s happily married to the man of her dreams and is a former Navy wife. After spending months away from her husband while he was deployed, reading and writing was her escape from the loneliness.

I’d never given much thought to falling in love. For someone like me, it seemed an impossibility. Why dwell on something that would never happen? I had no interest in chicks for more than what they could give me in one night. Fuck ‘em and then show ‘em the door. There were always clinger groupies, who claimed to love me. But they loved what I could offer them. Sex. A one-night stand. A story to tell their friends about how they slept with a rocker. With Grant McDermott. I was a name. A symbol. Nothing more.

BLOG TOUR: "Beneath this Mask" by Meghan March

We are excited to be one of today's stops on Meghan March's Blog Tour for "Beneath this Mask". We loved this book and we know you will too!
beneath this mask
Synopsis
My name is Charlotte Agoston, and I’m a runner. Not the ‘let’s go for a jog and slap a 26.2 sticker on your bumper’ kind of runner; I’m the kind of runner who takes off when her father is staring down the barrel of a guilty verdict that carries a 175-year sentence for perpetrating the largest fraud in the history of the world. That’s right. Bernie Madoff was an amateur compared to Alistair Agoston.

Faced with living under a cloud of suspicion and constant questioning by the FBI, I ran. I’m making a new life in New Orleans as Charlie Stone. I traded my future in New York high finance for tattoos, booze, a few friends who don’t ask questions, and one giant mutt named Huckleberry Finn. Everything is simple and uncomplicated until Simon Duchesne—former hotshot Navy fighter pilot, NOLA’s favorite son, city councilman, and rumored congressional hopeful—walks into my life.

The flashing cameras he attracts threaten to expose everything I’m hiding, but I can’t seem to stay away. Why are the most dangerous ideas always the most seductive?

In trying to get lost, I found myself. And then I found Simon. He loves me, and he doesn’t even know my real name. I’m going to break his heart, but mine will shatter right along with it. This is our story.

Will we be strong enough to face the consequences of revealing what’s beneath this mask?

Our Review
4 Star ****

“The sins of the father shall be visited upon the son”… or daughter as it is in this case.
Who is Charlie Stone? She used to be Charlotte. She used to be society’s princess. She used to be. Hiding from her past and the lynch mobs ready to crucify her for her father’s transgressions Charlie has reinvented herself. Gone is the perfectly poised, dutiful, daughter of New York’s elite and replaced with a tattooed, pierced free spirit in skinny jeans and chucks. Content in her tiny bubble of eccentric friends, her world is rocked when a group of drunken bachelors come falling into her life. Can she let herself find happiness again? Does she deserve it? Can she find redemption or will she be running from her demons forever?
Simon Duchesne has demons of his own. Plagued with nightmares from his time in military and being pressured by his dad to run for his vacated congressional seat while helping to run the family business. He could use a distraction and Charlie is a distraction. A crazy beautiful distraction. He is intrigue by her the moment he lays eyes on her. He knows there is more to her than what he sees and he wants to peel back all the layers. Undeterred by her reluctance or his father’s disapproval. He wants her. All of her. Whoever that may be. He wants her truth. Can he handle her truth? Even if it cost him everything?
The last thing Charlie wants is for her past to hurt the people she loves… but it’s inevitable. The truth will always find you…
I loved this story. It was just the right combination of love , passion and mystery. Simon is such a strong and sexy character. He is a real rock for Charlie. Even when he doesn’t understand. I like that he is his own man. He loves his mother and father yet he doesn’t let them or anyone else dictate who he is nor does he let anyone manipulate him. He knows when to be there for Charlie and when to back off and he is able to be an alpha without having to be an ass. The secondary cast is wonderful from Charlie’s boss’ to her land lady to Simon’s parents. All are such richly written characters. This was my first Meghan March read and I look forward to more from her.

Excerpt

Backing me into a corner, he trapped me in the circle of his arms, much like he had earlier at the gate. I reached up and laid my palms against his chest, tracing the compass inked on his pectoral muscle with my index finger. Our skin didn’t touch anywhere else, but mine prickled with the need to feel him against me. I leaned closer, but he grasped my shoulders, effectively holding me back.

I looked up questioningly.

“You left me a message, then slammed a gate in my face, then you strip in front of me, and invite me to go skinny dipping. I can’t keep up with you. I need to know what the hell is going on here before it goes any further.”

I sagged back against the edge of the pool, letting the concrete lip dig into my spine. So much for my hastily constructed plan. An experienced seductress I was not. He must have read the defeat in my expression because he said, “I’m not saying I’m not interested. Hell, I’m buck ass naked, and I can’t exactly hide that I want you. But I need to know ... why now? What changed?”

I stared down at the water, wishing fleetingly that the pool lights were on so I’d know for certain that he still did, in fact, want me. But given the leap I’d taken by stripping naked in front of him, I suppose I owed him at least some sort of an explanation.

“I decided that, for tonight, I didn’t care that you’re you and I’m me. I decided to take a risk and see what happened.” My answer was vague and without substance, but I hoped it would be enough. Heat pulsed between my legs and my nipples beaded almost painfully. I wanted him. Now.

But he didn’t relent. “It doesn’t matter who I am or who you are. Tonight or any other night. We’re just people.”

I held in a snort. Barely. He wouldn’t be in this pool if he knew who I really was. I was poison to someone like him. To everyone.

Simon tilted my chin up, forcing me to meet his eyes. “If I fuck you tonight, are you going to throw me out on my ass as soon as we’re done and never call me again?”

I bit my lip. Damn. He should be a freaking interrogator instead of a politician. But I wasn’t going to lie to him. At least not about this. “Probably.”

He released my chin and backed away. “Then, no.” He shook his head. “This isn’t happening. Not tonight.” He turned and made his way to the stairs. I caught a flash of his pale, muscular ass as he climbed out of the pool. I looked down at the water, hot humiliation filling me. What the hell am I doing? I sank farther beneath the surface, up to my chin. I needed to be covered. I heard the rustle of clothes and wondered how he was drying off without a towel. But I didn’t look up to assuage my curiosity. I’d given in to curiosity once already tonight, and this was where it landed me. In a pool of my own shame.

He cleared his throat, and I finally looked up. He was wearing his tux pants, and the shirt was partially buttoned. He held his soaked white undershirt in his hand. One question answered.

His hazel eyes drilled into me. “You have my number. Call me when you want more than a quick fuck.”

And then he was gone.

meghan marchAbout the Author
Meghan March is a Michigan native who has spent a good portion of her life buried in a book. Case in point: she read the entire romance section of her small town public library by age fourteen. Even after growing up (sort of) and getting a law degree, she never lost her passion for a great story, twisty plot, epic romance, and amazing characters. When she’s not writing, she’s probably reading, target shooting, drooling over fast cars, playing with her crazy mutt, or hanging with her very own sexy bad boy.
