Life works in mysterious ways.
Four years ago I became known as the girl with cancer.
I refuse to cry.
And I refuse to give in.
A relationship with a man is the last thing I’m looking for right now, but one night with Parker changes everything. He is persistent, and he knows what he wants. Me.
He doesn’t treat me like I’m fragile.
But he doesn’t know, and I’m not ready to tell him.
What if it changes everything?
Tragedy found me when I was seventeen.
Love found me when I was twenty-one.
My name is Aundrea McCall, and this is my journey.

MY REVIEW:

Rating: 4 Star ****

I was late starting this book and worried I would have to hurry through it. I needn't to have worried because once I read the first few words I was hooked. The story captivated me. I didn't eat, sleep or shower until I had finished. Aundrea is an amazing character and you live her journey with her. It is an intense, emotional and sometimes painful journey. Parker was strong-hot male lead and just what Aundrea needed. Their story was steamy and sweet. I also enjoyed the secondary characters in this book very much. Everyone needs a friend like Jean and a sister like Genna in their corner.

This is a romance, but it's much more than that. It's a story about living while surviving. I think a lot of people forget how to do that while fighting for their lives. It's so raw and real and will just gut you. Amanda Maxlyn is quite talented and her debut really blew me away. I highly recommend this read and I can not wait to see what else she has in store for us.

Sometimes you can’t see the storm coming until it’s too late...

Severe Storm Warning Tip #1:
Be alert to changing weather conditions. Look for approaching storms.

Severe Storm Warning Tip #2:
If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs, be prepared to take shelter immediately.

Severe Storm Warning Tip #3:
They may strike quickly, with little or no warning.

Situated just outside of Oklahoma City, Calumet County is divided into two drastically different communities: Hope’s Grove and Summit Bluffs. One is the small backward town where dirt roads lead the way to field parties and railroad tracks. And the other, a sprawling suburb where paved drives lead to the landscaped lawns of the wealthy and over privileged.

For five teenagers smack in the middle of Tornado Alley, summer is heating up fast. The winds of change are blurring the invisible line that divides the rich and the rural.

One has a secret.
One has a crush.
One has been lying.
One will get caught.
And one might not make it out alive.

They’re from two different worlds…but one summer is about to change everything.

Excerpt:

Hope’s Grove was small. Everyone knew about her parents, and she was already dreading facing them since the news of her dad’s affair had hit. But facing them without her brother and her best friend would be her worst nightmare.
After the girls had said their goodbyes and she’d watched her friend’s taillights fade down the drive, Ella Jane scuffed her boots along the winding dirt road that led her home.
She was about halfway there, watching the sun sink low in the evening sky, when the unmistakable rumble of a pickup truck came barreling down the road behind her. She stepped aside to let it pass without looking back. But it didn’t pass. It slowed practically to a stop right next her.
She turned, wondering what the heck the driver’s deal was. There was more than enough room for him to go around. But the smiling face beneath the backwards trucker hat sent the words on the tip of her tongue swirling away with the dust the truck had riled up.
She bit her lip and grinned. Warm brown eyes gleamed in her direction. “Hey there, Ellie May. Need a ride?”
She rolled her eyes. Why Brantley Cooper couldn’t call her by her actual name was beyond her. But as long as he was talking to her, she really didn’t care much what he called her. He can call me ‘flower’ if he wants to.
He was a year older than her and a year younger than her older brother, Kyle. Smack in the middle of their ages and grades in school and usually smack in the middle of their arguments. Coop kept the peace. Balanced them out perfectly.
The three of them had met at the same time as kids but Coop and Kyle had become like brothers instantly. She’d always tagged along wherever they went. Kyle had whined about it when they were younger but Coop always made her feel welcome. He held doors open for her so she didn’t get left behind, made sure to invite her despite her brother’s protests, and lately he’d even stopped by and hung out even when Kyle wasn’t home. And this year, she’d be a junior and Coop would be a senior. With her big brother away at college, she couldn’t help but fantasize about what might happen if she and Coop spent time together alone.
“Hey, Coop. Lynlee just left so I was just…” She glanced toward home. Kyle wasn’t back from football camp yet, and her mom was baking herself to death, trying to keep her mind off of everything.
“Yeah, I heard the Wicked Witch was moving west. You up for some fishing? I have to drop my bike off at the house but we could swing by the lake after.”
She should get home. She knew she should. Should order a pizza and convince her mom to take it easy for a night. Except…it was Coop. And in all her sixteen years, he was the one boy she’d never been able to say no to.
“Yeah. Yeah I’m up for it.”

My Review:

Rating:  5 Stars *****

Every once in a while a book or series comes along that reignites your love for reading. This is that kind of series…

Do you remember what it was like to be head over heels for your first love. Do you remember the anxiety, the self doubt, the thrill of the unknown? Do you remember what it was like to step out of the safety and niaveity of your childhood and face becoming an adult head on? Whether you are going through it all right now or it’s just a faded memory, this book will touch a nerve and bring it all flooding back.

The story follows five main characters: Kyle, EJ, Coop, Cami and Hayden. Kyle and Ella Jane are brother and sister and Coop is Kyle’s best friend and the boy EJ has had a major crush on most her life. They are from hard working families in a small town. They grew up together and the three share a special bond. Hayden and Cami are from one town over and their lives are polar opposite. They are the the golden couple of their high school. They come from rich families who spoil them in material things but neglect them emotionally. Over the length of one pivotal summer their lives intersect and everything changes. The boys really grow up. All of them have to sacrifice for their families and each one has to step up and become a man in the face of that reality. I was most impressed with Hayden and his journey. He had to really open his eyes and take a hard look at himself. That’s not so easy to do at 30 much less in your teens. The girls had to face their own trials. Coming of age is always hard on girls. You have to let go of who everyone thinks you are and become comfortable just being who you actually are. Cami has the most trouble with this. I look forward to seeing her blossom in the next book. Then there is EJ our sweet innocent country girl with a backbone. I loved her character. She is just the right combination of sweet and sassy.

I was enthralled from page one. The story was gripping, emotional, nail-biting and real. You actually feel the changes and growth in the characters in your gut. You live it with them. You are taken on quite a ride that will leave you gutted and breathless. E. Lee and C. Quinn did a superb job. Their writing styles blend perfectly and the result is pure magic. Lets just say you will be beating down the rafters demanding book two as soon as you read the last line of Storm Warning.

Favorite Quotes:

“You’re going to look out for her right? When I’m gone? I need to know that somebody is gonna be here to take care of her. and you’re the only person I trust.”

“Please. I enjoy peace. I’ve got smutty romance novels to catch up on.”

“You’re welcome,” his grandma said as he opened the truck door for her. “Don’t make me regret being your wingman”

“Really? What kind of girls do you know?” “Fake ones. Conceited ones. Insecure ones. Lots of different kinds. None like you though.”

“Thanks, babe. Glad someone thinks I’m worth something.”

About the E. Lee and C. Quinn:

Whether you believe in destiny, divine intervention, or just plain ol' dumb luck, several things happened in 2013 that caused E. Lee and C. Quinn's paths to cross. It may have been that the stars aligned perfectly, or the fact anytime Luke Bryan was mentioned on a social media site both of them were tagged, or maybe it was just that their small town roots and country girl attitudes were magnetically drawn together—calling out to one another, “Y'all should write a book!” Despite geography keeping them apart—Lee in Illinois and Quinn in Alabama—they did. Thanks to three-hour phone calls, ridiculous amounts of online chats, and umpteen Google Docs—Storm Warning is the first book in their edgy new Young Adult series,  Broken Heartland.

Title: Avoiding Temptation
Author: K.A. Linde
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover By: Okay Creations

Synopsis

Two years after walking out of Jack’s wedding, Lexi has finally put her past behind her. She has made up her mind about where her life is headed. This time, she is sticking to her guns, no matter what.

That is, until a phone call shatters the fragile grasp she has on her new life. Lexi is forced to question everything she thought she knew about what she wanted, and life-changing events push her to reevaluate the very plans she holds so dear. Nevertheless, Lexi has to choose her true path. That might just mean deciding, once and for all, that she doesn’t have to answer to anyone but herself.

In this highly anticipated final installment of the bestselling Avoiding series, follow Lexi as she juggles a new career, a new city, and the burgeoning affections of three very different men.

Excerpt:

“Don’t make me use my womanly wiles on you.”
“Is that an option?” he asked, ducking his head and planting a kiss on her lips.  His handed gripped the back of her T-shirt.
Stepping out of the embrace, she threw her hands up.  “Ew, I’m seriously gross right now.”
“I think you’re beautiful.”
“Beautiful, and in need of a shower,” Lexi said, backing toward the bathroom.
“I could join you…”  He trailed off as he backed her into the bathroom.  His hands pawed at her shirt, which he quickly guided over her head to where it belonged…on the floor.
“I mean, if you insist,” Lexi murmured.
He slid her running shorts to the ground.  “Oh, I insist,” he said, admiringly sliding his hands down her slight curves.
He backed up a step to flip the walk-in shower to its hottest setting before locating two towels and placing them on the counter.  Lexi stripped out of her bra and thong, and then she walked right into the steamy glass shower.  As he watched, she eased back into the spray, closed her eyes, and let her head dip back into the water.  She heard him groan, and a smile played on her face.
A few seconds passed, and then he entered the shower.  His hands retraced their earlier progression down her now wet body.  She breathed in sharply when they moved back up to her breasts and flicked gently against her erect nipples.  He leaned forward and took one in his mouth, pushing them both through the shower and back against the tiled wall.  Lexi gasped from both the feel of him against her and the cold tiles behind her.
She wound her fingers into his hair and breathed in the air, thick with steam.  He hoisted her leg up around his waist, pressing her harder against the wall.
“Fuck,” she cried as she felt the length of him slide between her legs.

Rating:  5 Star *****

Blurb:

In the past, I've always been given everything I've wanted, but nothing that I truly needed. I've experienced a lot of things in my twenty-five years, everything except the one thing I want. It's the one thing that can’t be bought. It can't even be taken, it has to be given. And nobody has ever given it to me, not really anyway.

Not until him.

Music is the center of both our lives, but as he found his place in it, I lost my way. He soared, while I spiraled down a destructive path.
I lost myself in more ways than I can count.

The ironic thing is that I didn’t realize how lost I was until he found me.

And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.

My Review:

Well this story starts with a bang and doesn’t let up until the last word. We meet Brooklyn and she seems to have it all together. She is the daughter of the owner of a very successful record label and a former model. She owns her own thriving business in LA that provides custom made microphones to the music industry and her father wants her to work for the family business because she has an uncanny ear for musical talent. Seems like a nice little life right… It’s very easy to judge a book by its cover, but oh you never quite know what someone has or is living through.

So Brooklyn begrudgingly uproots her life, leaving her business mainly in the hands of her BFF and business partner Allie, and heads to NYC to work with her brother Hendrix. She moves into Hendrix condo and with the help of her outlandish cousin Nina she starts settling into the New York party scene much to Hendrix concern. Why? Looks like our girl may have battled a few personal demons in her past. She conquered them but everyone who has ever loved someone through things of that nature is always waiting with bated breath for the day they slide back down that slippery slope. It’s hard not only for the one falling but also for the ones who love them and watch feeling helpless. No one wants to see Brooklyn back in that dark place.

Enter Nick Wilde. Oh Nick, Nick, Nick Wilde. He is a record producer that goes by the name Shadow and is so freaking hot. Brooklyn is instantly attracted to him but she doesn’t really want to be. She has gone down the road of dating within the music industry, one artist in particular, and she knows that “relationships” really aren’t their thing. Plus our girl is a tad insecure about herself, her body, her worth. Nick however is not deterred in the least. He wants her and he wants her to be only his. He is so alpha which I really love in a MC. Brooklyn needs that strong male in her life. Then there is that little kink that is Shea Roberts. Shea is a star that Brooklyn championed and is an ex-boyfriend, turned friend with benefits when he couldn’t keep it in his pants when on the road, turned best guy friend and the only constant left in her life. Their relationship is messy and complicated and unresolved… and Nick doesn’t like to share. Couple that with some secrets Nick holds and things get derailed before they really get started. Can she let go of the past and start really living again? Can she let someone in to love her when she has never really felt loved by anyone even her own family? Can she escape the pain and guilt that threatens to pull her into the darkness again?

Claire Contreras sure knows how to write a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This one is has so many different facets. Everything is tested: friendship, love, sanity. Your heart will be tied up in knots and then soaring and just when you think everything is going to be okay she throws you a gut wrenching curveball that literally stops your heart. Wow, just wow. I highly recommend this book. It was worth every single laugh and every single tear.

Favorite Quote:

"I don't know what it is about him that makes me want to grab his face in place so that he'll never look at anything but me. I'm not sure what bothers me more: the realization or the fact I can't remember feeling this way about anyone before him."

About the Author:

Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.

Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading.

She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter.

Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones or ones that will scare the daylights out of her and have her looking over her shoulder at every turn. Like I said, she's very random.

About the Authors:

E. Lee

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany... I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.
