In the past, I always been given everything I've wanted, but nothing that I truly needed. I've experienced a lot of things in my twenty-five years, everything except the one thing I want. It's the one thing that can’t be bought. It can't even be taken, it has to be given. And nobody has ever given it to me, not really anyway.
Not until him.
Music is the center of both our lives, but as he found his place in it, I lost my way. He soared, while I spiraled down a destructive path. I lost myself in more ways than I can count.
The ironic thing is that I didn’t realize how lost I was until he found me. And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.

Teaser:

He never takes his eyes off of me as he crosses the street. He walks around a group of people, purposely stepping to my side. There’s no time for formal hellos in the middle of the street, and I’m glad for that because I don’t want to introduce him to my brother and do the whole shebang in a crowded street. My smile is fixed on my face as he approaches, also smiling at me, his eyes crinkling in mischief. When he brushes past me, he takes my hand and squeezes it slightly. It’s just a squeeze. Just. But it’s enough to get my heart pumping, my blood tingling, and my eyes widening as if I’ve been caught doing something wrong, which I know is ridiculous, but that’s how his touch makes me feel.

One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Again.

Review:

16 year old Kate has lived next door to Beau for more than half her life. They’re best friends spending all their time together and as they grow older those feelings change. They know they’re each other’s forever or that’s what they thought until one rainy night when Kate loses a piece of herself at the hands of the drunken all-star quarterback.

Ashamed of what’s happened to her Kate hides her terrible secret from everyone and pulls away from Beau, her friends, and her mother…..the only thing remaining is work, running, and memories. Beau waits for her knowing something has changed and wants to help her but doesn’t know how. She decides to hold off a year on going to college but sends Beau on his way; telling him to go and enjoy himself, find someone whole who can love him, find his happiness and live his life without her.

After saying a terribly sad good bye to Beau, Kate continues to live the shell of her life – working at the local diner and staying locked in her room hidden in her memories and fighting the terrible pain that comes with those memories. While working at the diner she encounters Asher – he’s mysterious, gorgeous, and apparently awe struck by Kate.

They quickly become friends, going fishing, watching movies, and just being kids – something Kate hasn’t done in two years. Asher who is hiding his own secrets and fears brings her out of her head long enough that she begins to feel things and feel human again. During an very poignant scene where they’ve gone fishing the sky opens up and rain begins to pour – Kate lets Asher in on her private hell; telling him exactly what happened but only after Asher told her one of his secrets. Together they try to heal each other and love each other. They give each other the second chances each of them deserves.

Beau doesn’t play as big of a part during the middle of this book so it doesn’t mention him much but after Asher’s second secret comes to light Beau reappears. He and Kate don’t immediately pick up where they left off – her wanting nothing but friendship and him being in love with her – but eventually they get close again and they give each other their second chances as well. Will they be each other’s forever like they initially thought? Is it possible to love two people at once? We all know life never happens the way you plan it; it often goes askew and we have to make the best of it.

This was a beautiful and heart wrenching book. The characters are wonderful and warm and likeable. There was some angst but mainly love and concern. I will say when you get ready to sit down and read this make sure you have some Kleenex stockpiled next to you. Add to your TBR shelf!!

Blurb:

At age twenty, Molly Shakespeare knows a lot.

She knows Descartes and Kant.

She knows academia and Oxford.

She knows that the people who love you leave you.

She knows how to be alone.

But when Molly leaves England's grey skies behind to start a new life at the University of Alabama, she finds that she has a lot to learn — she didn't know a summer could be so hot, she didn't know students could be so intimidating, and she certainly didn't know just how much the folks of Alabama love their football.

When a chance encounter with notorious star quarterback, Romeo Prince, leaves her unable to think of anything but his chocolate-brown eyes, dirty-blond hair and perfect physique, Molly soon realises that her quiet, solitary life is about to dramatically change forever...

My Review:

Ok I have to admit that I was worried when I started this story. I felt the connection was too rushed between the main characters. I have never been a fan of "love at first sight" I like a slow build up. I was a little perplexed by Rome's instant and intense interested in Molly and then there was the name thing. Romeo Prince? Molly Juliet Shakespeare??? It was cute... a little too cute maybe.  However, it kinda grew on me especially after we get the explanation of why they both had these outrageous monikers.

The story started to pick up for me a few chapters in. I absolutely fell in love with our brainy Molly and her unique group of friends. A smart, awkward and self depreciating Brit with a charming accent and no knowledge of American football attending the University of Alabama. The mecca of SEC football. *face palm*. How can you be a Bama student and not know anything about college football???  I am a football girl... rabid football fan girl and my college team of choice... you got it ALABAMA!!! Roll Tide! So of course I was instantly smitten with our hero, the handsome, ill-tempered, bad mannered, cocky superstar quarterback for the Crimson Tide. I found it tragic that his parents didn't support him. Isn't it ever father's dream to have his son looking to be the #1 NFL Draft Pick? Seriously like every dad in America's dream... right?... RIGHT? Apparently our poor Rome got stuck with the one piss poor father in the entire country who wants nothing to do with football but wants his son to marry the queen bitch of UA and take over his oil business one day.

Rome and Molly seem like an unlikely pair from the very beginning... but she becomes his lucky charm with one sweet kiss and they seem to share a deep need for each other. Neither has ever been able to count on someone else. Rome has been nothing but a disappointment and a pawn his entire life and Molly has lost everyone she ever cared about and is utterly alone in the world.  Their love is hard fought. His family is against them. The student body doesn't understand them. AND they are named after the character of a notoriously tragic play.

Can they find a way to hold on when the odds are stacked against them? Is their love big enough to stand up to his powerful family?? Can Molly keep her heart and feet planted when all she has ever done is run???

If you are that eclectic mixer of football, romance, and Shakespeare fan you are going to LOVE this book. It is very well written... it will inspire a gamut of emotion... you will laugh, you will get angry, you will cry and you will swoon.

Favorite Quotes:

"Hey Mol."
"Hey You."
"You gonna give up that lucky sweet kiss?"
"If that's what you want"

"Molly, a home is not a place. It's not a country or a town or a building or possession. Home is with the other half of your soul, the person who shares in your grief and helps you carry the burden of loss. Home is with the person who throughout it all never gives up on you and brings you eternal happiness. That, Molly dear, is your home sweet home..."

"For the first time in my life, I was running to something, not away from it."

"It's Python."

Except:

Romeo’s nostrils flared and he stepped closer. “You want to know all about my sexual past,
all the sordid details? Fine! I’ve fucked a lot of girls, in many different ways, in many
different places. They’d throw themselves my way and I’d give them what they wanted, and
they’d fuckin’ love it.”

Before I knew what’d happened, I’d struck his face with my hand, the loud slap amplified by
the tinny acoustics in the boxy room.

Blood scolded my veins, my chest pounded, and Rome turned a dark shade of purple.

“Did that feel good? Have you got it outta your system now?” he bit out, rubbing his hand along his cheek.

Tears swelled in my eyes. I didn’t mean to hit him, but no one had ever evoked such a reaction in me before. I was physically shaking with the sudden rush of adrenalin.

Romeo leaned against the opposite wall, lowering his head. “They fucked Bullet. They only ever fucked Bullet!”

My breath paused with hurt. “Nice, Rome. Real nice. Is that what you’ll do to me? Let me
fuck the great Bullet Prince, give me what I want, and move on?”

He stormed forward, forcing me back so my spine was flush against the cold steel shelves, his
arms bracing me in a cage on either side. “Not at all, Shakespeare, but hear this. I’m gonna fuck you, but I’m also gonna make love to you too. I’m gonna own every goddamn piece of your soul, and I’m never gonna let you go. You’re gonna scream my name over and over until it’s permanently lodged in your fuckin’ throat. You’re not gonna be just a fuck to me, Mol—you’re gonna be my fuckin’ salvation!”

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: "Bold Tricks" by Karina Halle

Title: BOLD TRICKS
Author: Karina Halle
Release: October 15, 2013 by Forever
Genre: Contemporary/Romantic Suspense/New Adult

Rating:  5 Stars *****

Blurb:

The Faster They Live, the Harder They Fall . . .Raised by con artists, Ellie Watt has a lot of crazy childhood memories-but none crazier than being scarred with acid by the demented crime boss Travis Raines. Now Ellie is a full-grown woman who lives for revenge, and Travis is a full-blown drug lord who kills for pleasure. The sadistic bastard has kidnapped her good friend Gus as well as her mother, whom he's been holding as prized possessions in his heavily guarded lair. And Ellie has only one chance in hell of getting them out alive-using two dangerous men who love her to death . . .

One is Camden McQueen, a talented tattoo artist who's made a permanent mark on Ellie's heart. The other is Javier Bernal, her fiery ex-lover who's busted more than a few heads in his time. From the crime-ridden streets of Mexico City to the predatory jungles of Honduras, this unlikely trio forms an uneasy alliance in the deadliest game of all-a gun-blazing battle to the finish that will pit enemy against enemy and lover against lover. And Ellie must choose the right man to trust . . . or die.

My Review:

Wow. From the first sentence this book was a wild, crazy, exciting ride. The action was so well written that “my” heart was racing and “I” was holding my breath (my hubs actually asked if I was hyperventilating at on point). Our motley crew of anti-heroes are on the run of their lives. Racing to get to Javi’s sister before Travis or his men can and on a mission to save Gus and Elli’s mother.

The relationships in this book are so multifaceted. Not a single one is cut and dry. Javier and his sister, Elli and Javi’s sister, Elli and Javi, Elli and Cam, Javi and Cam, Elli and Gus and Elli and her mother… all are perplexing.

Let’s talk about Elli and Javi for a moment. Does he love her or is he obsessed with her? I think a little of both. I think he loves the idea of having someone to be his queen. Javi is basically alone in the world. He can trust no one. No one can trust him. He uses every one as pawns in his game of power and the only loyalty he garners either has to be bought and paid for or wrought in fear of him. Does that make him a sympathetic character? Yes and no. He uses people… even if he cares for them. Nothing and no one is as important as his rise to power. We WANT him to show a heart… We WANT him to choose love over power… We WANT him to be redeemed… that makes him sympathetic because we want so badly to love him. His obsession with Elli surpassed love a long time ago. I think he did love her once. I think now he is just sickly trained on owning her. He simply doesn’t like to lose.

Now let’s talk about Elli and Cam. Does he still love her or has she put him through too much? I think it’s safe to say that Cam has changed the most throughout this series. He’s seen some things and been forced to do some things that will forever scar him. Elli hurt him as a teenager… and Elli hurt him as an adult. He still loves her wants to protect her even if he can’t forgive her. One could argue that is obsession, but I don’t think so. See Cam is the only one who knew the real Elli from the beginning. His intentions from day one were pure and they haven’t changed. He doesn’t want to change her he wants to let her be the person she wants to be. He’s not trying to force her to fit into his world and if anything he has changed to fit into hers. He’s the one making all the sacrifices. Even if he doesn’t get the girl in the end he will still bend heaven and earth to make sure she is safe and reunited with the ones she loves. Did you catch that… EVEN IF HE DOESN’T GET THE GIRL… isn’t that the definition of love?

Working together with both of these men puts Elli in an uncomfortable place. Having to rely on both to survive and also them having to reply on each other. Their grand plans to infiltrate Travis’s compound seems like a suicide mission and all is not what it seems. Wheels were put into motion a long time ago for this very showdown. When all is revealed it will leave you speechless.

So who gets the girl…. That all depends on Elli. Elli has a choice to make. The choice isn’t really about Team Javi verses Team Cam. It never really was. They just represent two different paths. The choice is about who she “wants to be”… not who she “wants to be with”.

I highly recommend this series and Bold Tricks is definitely one of my Top 5 books of 2013. So go get it…

Favorite Quotes:

“On one side of me was Camden McQueen, on the other was Javier Bernal. One more light than dark, one more dark than light. Both men had come for me. Both men had loved me. And both of them I had seriously underestimated.”

“I have steady hands”

“I fucking need you and I need you to forgive me. I need that more than anything in the world!

“I don't want to love you, Ellie, but I do love you. I can't stop myself. I've been try to since the moment I saw you with him. You broke me, you broke my fucking heart. You broke me into so many pieces that I didn't think I could find myself again. And I'm so damn scared, I'm scared just like you. You've always been my love, Ellie Watt, since the very beginning.

"Deep in his insanity, he was making some sense. That’s what I hated most about Javier, that there was always a kernel of truth to his words, a truth that made you fall for the lies."

Title: If Forever Comes (Take This Regret #2)
Author: A.L. Jackson
Release: September 20, 2013

Rating: 5 Star *****

Blurb:

If Forever Comes, the final chapter in the New York Times Bestselling series, Take This Regret.

Christian Davison’s life is complete. With a ring on Elizabeth’s finger and his daughter at his side, he’s ready to run headlong into their future.

Elizabeth Ayers never believed she would again find this kind of joy—the joy of a family and the wholeness found in the touch of the man she’s always loved.

Their love is intense and their passion only grows as they set out to rediscover each other.

But life is never easy.

Rocked by the unforeseen, Christian and Elizabeth will find themselves fighting for the one thing they hold most important—family.

My Review:

I don't think I have ever hoped harder for a couple to get their Happily Ever After. We have known Christian and Elizabeth since they were teenagers in college. We watched them fall in love. We were there when that love was ripped to shreds. We felt the pain that they both endured and the regret of lost time. At the end of Take This Regret we were elated when Elizabeth was finally able to let go of her fear and to forgive Christian for all his past sins and let him not only into Lizzie's life but back into her heart. It was a hard fought battle and Christian deserved every moment of agony Elizabeth put him through... but finally, finally their family was whole.

Now they face a new challenge. On the eve of their happy forever, a heart-breaking loss hurls Elizabeth into a dark place. A place that she doesn't know how to climb out of herself and she refuses to let Christian in to help guide her. Is it selfish, when you can't control it? Are you to blame when you can't see past your pain? Grief can be debilitating. It can cause your body to shutdown and it can cause you to cocoon yourself in your misery because no one can understand how you feel and it's a very slippery slope for your loved ones. How do they hold on when you are trying so hard to make them go? If their very existence in your life causes you more pain what do they do? Christian is completely at a loss. He has his own grief and Lizzie to consider and Elizabeth wont let him in. He thinks he is making things worse so he does the one thing he promised he would never do again... he walks away.

This was a gut wrenching read. My heart shattered right along with Elizabeth's. I felt her anger and her grief and her helplessness. I understood where she was and how hard it would be to find a way out... and then Christian... poor, poor Christian. My momma told me a long time ago that men are fixers. You have a problem, they want to fix it. They are not equipped to just be there, listen to you, cry with you and do nothing. It just isn't in their nature... they need to be able to fix it. I saw this in Christian. He ran because he didn't know what else to do. He couldn't fix it and it killed him.

This story was a beautiful, raw and real look at what two people sharing a life together face. Life isn't always pretty. Your fairytale isn't always easily wrought. Love is a choice you make and a commitment you have to honor every single day. Christian and Elizabeth already overcame so much to get their family back. Can he find away to reach her... can he be strong enough for them both... can he be man enough to stand and not fix it?

Favorite Quotes:

“After everything we’d been through together, I’d left Elizabeth when she needed me most. Left when life was the most difficult, because I didn’t know how to deal with the pain any more than she did. We’d been blindsided, our foundation ripped from beneath us, nothing there to catch us when we fell. And when we’d fallen, we had completely fallen apart. I’d been standing on the sidelines, waiting. Waiting when I should have been fighting"

"Don't leave me." Exhaling, I somehow managed to pull her a little closer. I would never let her go. "Never, Elizabeth. I wasn't going anywhere. I was just waiting for you to come back to me."
