FLASHBACK FRIDAY: "Rock Chick" by Kristen Ashley

Title: Rock Chick
Author: Kristen Ashley
Release: December 08, 2008

Synopsis:

Indy Savage, cop's daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy's employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicating matters, Lee has decided he's interested, Indy's decided she's not. But she can't seem to keep Lee out of her life when she's repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she's finding dead bodies).

Indy's best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee's challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

My Review:

5 Stars *****

Well I didn't know what to expect going in to this series. For some reason (I don't know why) I thought I wouldn't enjoy them but some friends kept telling me to try (thank you Cantu sisters) and I am SO glad I did. I LOVED this group. Like "crazy loved" them. Indy & Ally are so funny and cool. I swear you will walk away wishing you had Ally as a best friend. I like that they have known each other FOREVER and are still thick as thieves and getting in to all kinds of mischief together even in their *gasp* 30s. Not every heroine has to be a demure virgin in her early 20s dammit!

The story is funny, sexy and intruging which is a recipe for a great book. You have kidnappings, shoot outs, explosions, fighting, flirting, sex and oh my it's hard to keep up. The characters are a motley crew of crazy... you have fabulous gays, rocker chicks, badass cops, mobsters, insane ex-vets, stoners, and then there is Lee... oh my oh my. I wanted to jump through my kindle and into his lap. Yes he is the epitome of alpha hotness and I want to lick him. Indy drove him completely nuts and it was hilarous to see him trying to keep his cool and reel her in when her antics kept getting her into deeper and deeper shit. I mean really she is the polar opposite of what a person in his profession needs and yet everything he needs all in one little spitfire package.

When it was all said and done I was sad it was over. That is the mark of a great story in my book. I wanted more more more. So I am on to the next in the series and hope all our favorites (like TEX) are back and along for the Rock Chick Ride. PS: having met KA a couple times it is easy to see that she is Indy in about every way possible. If her life has been as exciting as Indy's I swear I want to be her new BFF!

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
