OUR REVIEW:
4 star ****

Life is full of choices. Some easy, some hard but they have to be made. We are all a result of the  choices we make. The trick is realizing when you made a bad one... forgiving yourself... and doing what you must to move past it.

Lindsay has a choice to make. A choice that is going to break her heart no matter what she decides. Ugh aren't those the worst??? Life is just not fair sometimes. She has worked so very hard to become the woman she is. She wants that anchor desk. She wants that opportunity. But when that dream finally has a chance at coming to fruition it's at the expense of her relationship with Matt. Can she walk away from the love of her life... her family... her home? Can her heart take it? Watching her live with her decisions and her ways of coping may break yours.

Matt oh how we love Matt. From the beginning of the Unbreakable Series I adored him (and Lindsay). The strong, steadfast friend. A rock. I was so excited when his and Lindsay's "not so secret" affair began. However, in this book, there were times when Matt really made me angry. The rock isn't so solid after all. We got a glimpse of his selfish side for the first time. We all have one and we see for ourselves that he is no super-human. He has a heart that can shatter.

Your heart will shatter. This book is painful. Beautifully painful.

All your favorites are back back for this installment. Gabe, Jess, Landon and Reagan are all along for Lindsay's journey. I love when a the final story brings us full circle. It's a treat for the loyal readers and Ms. Shea doesn't disappoint. I hate to say goodbye to this group but it's time. This is the perfect ending to a wonderful series.

Excerpt

“Looks like she's back,” Vince said as we pulled back up to the shop the next afternoon. He pointed at the two trucks parked along the street. She waved at us from the bed of one of the trucks as she she handed down boxes to someone. Her hair was pulled up into a ponytail that barely brushed her shoulders as she turned her head to talk to whoever was helping her move in. Why did she have to be so damn cute? Couldn't have been a dude or some homely girl that moved in next me, could it? That would have been asking the universe to cut me a fucking break and that had never been the case before. Why would it start now?

“Looks like she is,” I breathed. A part of me was kind of hoping that she wouldn't come back. Another part, the one that hoped she did, was taking notes on how great she looked as we approached. She smiled that excited, nervous grin that she had when Vince told her she could have the apartment. She had a certain
look about her that reminded me of Audrey. The Audrey from before we hit it big.  The one that just wanted to grab life by the horns. The one that didn't let the pressure get to her. Like the old Audrey, she hadn't yet
been tainted. She was naĂŻve and unassuming, at least from where I was standing.

“Need some help?” Vince offered up about the time I saw her helper step out from behind the truck. He was around the same height as me, which is where our similarities ended.  This guy had muscles in places I didn't even know were possible, and I was an athlete. On top of those muscles he had tattoos and a look on his face that said “back the fuck off.” Or he did when he was looking at me anyway. Judging from his appearance, I guessed I wouldn't have to worry about him recognizing me. He didn't look like an avid golf  fan. No, this guy was country, not country club. All the more reason for me to keep my distance from her. The last thing I wanted to deal with was an overprotective boyfriend.

When he turned his attention to Vince his demeanor seemed to change. “I think we've only got it, but thank you,” he said politely. “I do have one favor to ask though,” he added, looking up at my new neighbor who appeared to be concerned with the next words that were going to come out of his mouth.

“Sure,” Vince answered, resting his arms on the back of the truck. “Keep an eye on my girl here,” he nodded up at her.  “She tends leap before she looks, if you know what I mean.”

“I do not,” she spouted. “I'll be just fine. I'm a big girl.” The way she popped her hand up on her hip and practically stomped her foot caused everyone of us to crack a smile. She hopped down out of the back of the truck and shut the tailgate. “Thanks for your offer, Vince, but this is the last load to go upstairs. Come on, Cole,” she urged, seeming to have better places to be.

“Vince, was it?” Cole extended his hand. “Nice to meet you.”

“You too,” Vince replied. “We'll keep an eye on her.” Cole nodded, pleased with Vince's words.

"Didn't catch your name,” he said turning to me.

“Boone,” I replied, thrusting my hand out to meet his.  I wasn't scared of this guy.  Sure, he could have probably kicked my ass all over the street, but he had no reason to worry about me. I wasn't interested in his girl.

“Not going to have to worry about you getting her into any trouble, am I?” He raised up, his broad shoulders casting a shadow over me. His hand squeezed around mine in warning.

“Nope,” I said, matching the pressure of his grip.  “Not going to have to worry about me at all.” I feel myself rising up to gain an inch on him. “If she's getting into any trouble she'll be doing it all on her own.”
Which I didn't doubt. As sweet and naĂŻve as she appeared, I could tell from our brief encounter that she was a spitfire. Cole didn't need to worry about me one bit, but he moved toward me nonetheless. This guy wanted to stand toe-to-toe, I was game. It'd been a while since I felt an adrenaline rush. I used to get them all the time—teeing off on the first hole of a major, sinking a putt to seal a double birdie. This was a different kind of rush, but I'd take it.  It was good to feel something other than guilt for once.

“Good.” He finally broke the tension with a chuckle. “I'll see ya around, Boone.”

“Yep.” Guess he'd be back to visit.

About Elizabeth Lee

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany... I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of
girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.

Kiro

Why couldn’t it have been my motherfucking heart? Why did it have to be my baby girls? I had been asking this question since the day they told me and Emmy that there was an issue with Harlow’s heart. I would have moved heaven and earth to take that from her. But just like I couldn’t save my Emmy. I couldn’t save our daughter.

She was stubborn and she was so fucking brave. That damn hard head of hers had been something I admired. Until she decided she was gonna have a baby. I knew she’d never abort it. Wasn’t in her nature. She had been trying to save the world since she was three years old. She always put others before herself. She preferred the people she loved over her wants and needs.

It was one of the things that made her so damn beautiful. Just like my Emmy. And she was all I had of my Emmy. The light in Emmy’s eyes had been gone for so long. Every day I visited her I hoped to see her eyes light up with understanding and she would come back to me but that never happened. Not once.

The only way I could see that light was to look at our Harlow. Our little miracle. And now, she was lying back there on some goddamn hospital bed with tubes in her and barely hanging onto life.

All I could think about on the flight here was how I was going to wrap my hands around Grant Carter’s neck for doing this to her. He hadn’t thought about her safety he had thought with his fucking dick. And my sweet Harlow loved the man. She wanted his kid. And he let her do it.

Rush had tried to talk to me and calm me down before Grant got back out here from seeing the baby that could have very likely just killed my baby. He said Grant was a wreck. That he had been standing there like a man possessed watching the door for a sign of Harlow. For any word.

He was scared. Good. Motherfucking GOOD! He should be. Maybe death was too good for him. A life empty and void because the woman who owns you is gone is hell on earth. That was what he deserved. I’d lived it and I knew what it was like. Death would be too easy for him.

I glanced back at Dean who was sitting with Blaire talking, then found where the rest of the band had found places to sit. When I’d gotten the call they had all shown up at the airport with me. They loved my girl too. She was their family. There was a good chance they’d kill Grant.

“Kiro,” Grant said and I jerked my head back around to see the man responsible for this. He was wearing a pair of blue scrubs which meant he’d probably been back to see that baby that took my Harlow from me. The dark circles under his eyes and the pale color of his face didn’t make me feel any better.

“You killed my, baby,” I snarled unable to not take out my pain on someone.

Grant tensed and Rush was there in between us immediately. He looked fierce and ready to take me on.

“She’s alive. She’s fighting because that is what she does. I don’t give a damn who you are I will have your ass removed from this hospital if you can’t keep it together. I’m sorry you’re hurting. I know you’ve got to be scared as shit. But so is he,” Rush said pointing at Grant. “He’s fucking terrified. Losing her would destroy him. He’s already breaking apart. So don’t come in here throwing shit around and accusing him of anything. He stood by the woman he loves when she was determined to have this baby. He couldn’t force her to do something she’d never get over.”

Dean came up beside his son and put a hand on Rush’s shoulder as if to make sure I knew I wasn’t going to be able to attack Rush either.

“The boy looks like he’s been through hell. Harlow wouldn’t want this. She would want you to be here for each other. You know that, Kiro.” Dean said in a stern tone.

They were all on the boy’s side. He could have stopped this. My baby wanted to give him a baby. She loved that baby because it was his. So hell yes I blamed him. He should have used a mother fucking condom.

“He didn’t protect her. He could have saved us all this with something as simple as a damn condom.”

Grant closed his eyes and I saw him tremble. Apparently he knew that too. He was taking the blame. Good. He needed to know if we lost her he killed her. Him. He didn’t take care of her. She trusted him and this was what happened.

“He didn’t know about her heart until the day she left him. She was pregnant before she left. She just didn’t know it,” Rush explained.

I already knew that. I didn’t care. He still should’ve used a condom. Respect a girl like Harlow and protect her from your dick. It’s fucking courtesy.

“Where the fuck is Mase? His ass should be here,” I said, angry that the brother she adored wasn’t here. Waiting.

“I’m right here asshole.”

EXCERPT:

That’s how I spot her.

There’s no doubt that it’s her; I’ve memorized her face.

Leaning against a wall on the opposite side, her lips wrapped around a clear bottle filled with clear liquor, her fiery red hair a wild mane against the stark white wall, a tight black T-shirt showing off toned arms. She’s in no rush to part with that bottle, guzzling back a good portion before she hands it off to someone, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

Her eyes at half-mast.

She’s wasted.

My heart starts racing. What the hell is Kacey Cleary doing here? By my calculation, she’s probably finishing her last year of high school, having lost at least half a year while recovering.

I tug my cap down even farther, though I doubt she can see two feet in front of her.
  1. What if she does recognize me? How would she react? Does she know my real name? What I look like? I can’t say for sure that my face wasn’t printed in a newspaper somewhere. She could have Googled my name and found a dozen game shots with me in them. I have my helmet on in most of them, but you can find a profile picture of me easily enough if you’re looking.
I don’t know that she was, though. I wonder if Kacey Cleary gives a fuck about anything anymore. Her Facebook account is inactive. She hasn’t posted a single word and the well-wishes have dwindled, as everyone moves on.

I do know that she shouldn’t be at a party in this state. I’ve heard of bad things happening when girls get that drunk. Especially when they don’t care.

But what do I do?

A blonde stumbles into my chest with two beers in hand. “Hey, do you go here? What’s your name?” She’s tipping her head back way farther than necessary to look up at me, telling me she’s trying to flirt but is too drunk to do it right.

I smile down at her anyway. She’s a good cover. I can stand right here and watch Kacey. “I’m Trent, and I used to go here.”

“Really? When’d you graduate?”

From the corner of my eye, I see Kacey shift from the wall and begin climbing the stairs, her arm hooked around the railing to help her. Two guys following her.
