Because chasing your dreams and following your heart don’t always lead you to the same place…

MY REVIEW:

Ok we pick up with Kylie and Trace right where we left them in “Girl with Guitar”. They are exploring new territory for both of them… a relationship. A kinda sorta secret relationship. See they are both about to go on separate tours and neither wants the media attention of going public. Might I add it’s a HOT relationship… I mean the prologue alone… my goodness *fans self*.  Needless to say both of them are apprehensive. They just found solid ground together and now they are going to be apart for weeks and to make it worse Trace is forced to tour with the hot mess that is Gretchen Gibson. Picture Shania Twain on crack … she is a drunk… a mean drunk and a ticking time bomb! How is Trace supposed to keep her in line and keep a hold on his own sobriety at the same time? Couple that with the fact that he and “Gretch” use to be a little more than friends and Kylie’s insecurities start running wild. Who can blame her? Trace was teetering on a slippery slope before the devil was added to his tour.  Then there are Kylie’s tour-mates. The pampered and neglected Lily & the just plain bitchy Mia. You guys remember Mia from “Girl with Guitar” right? Let’s just say Kylie isn’t her favorite person and she has no intention of pretending otherwise.

I think Caisey Quinn nailed it here. This book seems like a perfect representation of the challenges celebrity couples must face. It seems like everything is against Kylie and Trace from the start and in this day of iPhones & social media any situation can be skewed to look like something all together different. It would take a thick skin and a lot of trust to make it through that and let’s face it Kylie and Trace don’t have either of those.

Let’s talk about Trace for a minute. He really grew for me in this book. In “Girl with Guitar” he was just a spoiled, bratty superstar who was drinking his talent away and throwing his career down the toilet… but here we get to see how he loves Kylie and tries with all his might to be deserving of her. I love the way he loves her and I love the way supports her and her career. We also get to see that his problems go beyond being a hard partying jerk… he really struggles with his addiction. He fights it and it’s just too big for him and it breaks our heart.

Kylie is a fighter too. I love the “feel first think later” personality that she has. It may get her into trouble but it’s honest and I think that’s refreshing in a rising star. I hope she never changes. I hope her journey with Trace and stardom doesn’t jade her. She is perfect the way she is. Do I want her to lose everything because she wears her heart on her sleeve… No! Do I want her dreams to come true… Yes! BUT Do I want her to believe that your career is the most important thing in life and everything and everybody should come second… HELL NO! ***People are always more important and there is nothing wrong with having a heart… even a broken one!!!***

I can not wait for the next book in this series. I can’t wait to see where these characters go and how they grow from here. I CAN’T WAIT! Did you hear that Caisey???? ;)

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: "If You Leave" by Courtney Cole

Hello my Crazy Little Book Fiends! I am excited to introduce you all to one of my new reviewers Shannon D. This is Shannon's inaugural review for the blog...

Below you will find all the book info, blurb, author info and review for "If You Leave" by Courtney Cole. Be sure to enter our rafflecopter for your chance at winning one of three (3) eBook copies of "If You Leave". Good Luck & Happy Reading!

Title: If You Leave
Author: Courtney Cole
Release: August 6, 2013 by Forever

Rating: 5 Star ****

Blurb:

26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can't get past, he needs someone who can help him heal...even if he doesn't realize it.

25-year old Madison Hill doesn't need anybody...or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents' messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there's no way in hell that she's ever letting that happen to her.

They don't know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.

But Gabriel's got a secret, a hidden monster that he's afraid Maddy could never overcome... And Maddy's got issues that she's afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they've got demons to fight.

And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly.

Review:

IS EVERYONE BROKEN? Madison wonders this after a chance encounter with Gabe which starts in an alley way and ends with an epic and explosive cab ride.

We met Maddie in If You Stay and we knew she had an interesting story and some issues she was dealing with on her own, aside from her sister, Mila. In If You Leave, we get to know the issues and what all she went through after her parents were killed – taking on her sister and a restaurant and house – two out of the three, she didn’t want. She hasn’t lived the life she wanted to live. She feels as though she stepped in and is living her parents’ life. She’s ready for her own but is she ready for a relationship? She’s afraid of relationships, what they require, what they can become. She has to fight to make herself trust and love, she has to fight to see the good, she has to fight through her issues and come out on top. She wanted all of this and she fought for it - she did fight to love, trust, and believe in Gabe. Their love wasn’t an easy one to accept because of all the demons and doubts but she did it, Maddie did it!

Gabe is a sexy, troubled, guilt ridden ex US Army Ranger. He’s seen and done things that are only imaginable to you and me. One night in particular haunts his very existence – one night in which he blames himself – not the US Army, not the Taliban, not the insurgence – just himself and he doesn’t know how to deal with all the trauma so he’s pushed it down and it seeps back into his life via his nightmares. He’s a fighter to the heart – he loves fiercely and deeply – and will have to battle – just like when he was on the front lines if he wants to have a relationship with Maddie, if he wants to love her because he doesn’t feel as though he’s worthy of anyone’s love. It’s going to be his hardest battle ever – he’s battling his past, his guilt, his fear, to rid himself of the nightmares and the guilt to make his life better, for him and for Maddie.

You never expect the 2nd book of the series to be better than the first but in this case – If You Leave – by far was the best so far. We still have Jacey’s (Maddie’s employee and Gabe’s sister) book yet to come but I honestly don’t know if Courtney Cole can out do herself again. This book had everything you could want in a book – I cried, I laughed, I got mad, and I got happy. There have been a couple of books that I’ve read where the lead guy has PTSD but I’m telling you now – I think IYL touched on it in a real life way. There were times in there that I actually had an ugly snot face cry going during the PTSD treatment and when Gabe received some of the results of the PTSD treatment; it touched my soul and broke my heart. All in all, this book deserves the 5 stars I’ve given it, plus some. It completely bowled me over. It is absolutely one of the best of 2013.

~ Shannon D.

Favorite Quotes:

“It’s like I’m not whole when I’m not with you,” I tell her simply. “You’re a piece of me. A big piece of me. And when you’re gone, I can’t function right. I’m only half a person. I’m so sorry. I know I f**ked up. I acted with dishonor. I left you. But I did what I had to do to try and keep you safe.” Kindle location 4381.

“Is everyone in the world broken, Gabriel?” Even to my own ears, my whisper itself sounds broken in the velvety night. I can feel the weight of Gabriel’s gaze as he stares down at me in the dark. “I think so,” he finally answers. “In their own way.” Kindle location2347.

Excerpt:

She pulled up the web browser on her phone and did the one thing Trace had told her never to do. She Googled herself. COUNTRY COUPLE UPDATE: IS THE HONEYMOON ALREADY OVER FOR CORBIN AND HIS LATEST FLING? She clicked the link and read the few lines talking about her and Trace. Her vision blurred but she could read the main points. All they do is argue, says a source close to Ryans. She scrolled down the screen. There was more. For a second, everything was tinged in red. They’d had one minor disagreement since being apart. Over Mia, who’d been listening in on her conversation. She’d put up with the crazy chick being cold and distant and sometimes downright hateful. But this was bullshit. And Kylie intended to tell her so. Below that was a link to another article. One that almost caused her to forget about the situation with Mia entirely. Almost. TROUBLED ARTISTS TRACE CORBIN & GRETCHEN GIBSON CELEBRATE THEIR UPCOMING CO-HEADLINING TOUR WITH A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN. She couldn’t even read the article because she was too distracted by the pictures. Her surroundings began to spin as bile rose in her throat. Her stomach clenched and her entire body tingled with a painful intensity similar to what she imagined being electrocuted would feel like. Struggling to swallow, she clicked on the album featuring the grainy photos of Trace and Gretchen. The first showed him checking her out while they played pool. The next one was of the woman licking Trace’s neck as they took body shots off one another. With each click Kylie’s heart pounded harder. Her hands trembled as she swallowed the lump in her throat and stared at the image of Trace holding Gretchen in his arms in the middle of a bar. There has to be an explanation. There has to be. She just hoped it wasn’t something along the lines of he was out having a good time, getting wasted with Gretchen Gibson, like he’d be doing for the entirety of his tour. Even though that was exactly what it looked like.

BOOK SUMMARY:
Charity Powers is a young, intelligent woman that has left behind her predictable small town life, and even more predictable lover, to gamble on a fresh start in New York. She arrives with no leads or friends, just an armful of optimism and determination. When an attack at a local bar, a possible kidnapping attempt on her, is thwarted by a stranger, her life takes on an unforeseen turn.
Gorgeous and overly-experienced Justin Collins saves Charity from her attacker, and continues to save her in many other ways. "He's just the right mix of gentleman and caveman,” is how she describes him. He gives her exactly what she wants, and almost everything she needs, but his damaged past makes it impossible for him to commit.
At a new job, she falls into an online relationship with JP, the company’s owner. She hasn’t seen him, but he fills the gaps of Justin’s absences and feeds a fire Justin left unattended.
The return of her ex-lover exposes the dangerous secrets around her—one of these men has the power and connections to keep her safe at any cost, and the endless love for her to use this power or give it up to keep her.

EXCERPT:

Really, I don't know what it is about taxi rides with Justin. I think it's just the idea of being in a backseat with him, but it wasn't long before all I could think about was ripping his dark polo off of him and unzipping his jeans with my teeth.

Maybe I need a doctor. I love orgasms, but I was never addicted to sex the way I am with Justin.

Maybe his cock shoots heroin!

I laughed at myself and Justin looks at me, wanting to be in on the joke. "Just something about the girls from work," I said, blowing it off. I needed to change the subject. "What do you do, exactly; you've never mentioned your work?"

"Insurance," he said.

In the glow of the street lights, I turned and looked at his face. He looked right back at me, smiling.

"Yes, it's boring and that's why I never bring it up," he said, laughing.

I was still giggling when I said, "Then tell me something not boring about you." I grabbed the inside of his thigh with my hand and used it as leverage to pull myself closer.

"Okay," he started, "how about the fact that you just slid a little closer to an ex con?"
I don't know what to say to that.

Justin laughed at me. "Got you stumped now," he said. "Don't worry, it was a stupid thing I did as a kid. I was going through some stuff."
Thanks to Lena, I believe I knew exactly what he means by that.

"What did you do?" I asked, secretly excited that he was opening up to me.
He sighed. "I beat up my cousin—but I promise I had a good reason," he said quickly, defending his actions. "I was living with my aunt and cousin at the time. My father had recently passed away, and I was having an extremely rough time with it. He was all I had, my mother was a failure, and she was gone. My dad, that was hard."

I squeezed him, letting him know it was alright.

"My aunt was the only family around, so I was sent to live with her and her brat. My cousin and I had already hated each other by this point, but I didn't have a choice. I suppose he didn't either, but that was no reason for what he did, the things he said to me. I could take him talking about my mother, but he had no right to put my dad down, none at all," he said.

The sadness was still in him, flowing in his veins. It breaks my heart.
"He could have just left me alone," Justin continued. "I was afraid of him. He was older and bigger, he went his way and I went mine, and I liked it that way, but this time he went out of his way to get me. The day he called my father a quitter, said he was in hell where he belonged, I lost it. He was in the hospital for a week, ended up needing reconstructive surgery on his broken cheek. I saw him not too long ago; his eye on that side still looks crooked."

"He deserved it," I said, taking up for Justin. "He asked for it and he got it!"

"See, that's what I said," Justin added, smiling, and glad I saw it as he did. "But my aunt and cousin, and the police, they didn't see it like that. I was close enough to seventeen to be charged as an adult, but since my aunt kicked me out, and I had no prior record, they sent me to a boy’s home and then a city group home until I was eighteen."

"I'm so sorry," I told him. "You were down, and they kicked you."

The oddest expression settled on Justin's face. If not for my talk with Lena today, I wouldn't have had a clue what it was—relief! He'd just exposed a side of himself he kept hidden from everyone, a test to see if I would handle it, which I did without bringing his world down around him.

Now was not the time to pry for more, he had exactly what he needed from me, so I changed the subject.

"If you're around tomorrow, I may need help bringing in all my kitchenware. You came in pretty handy tonight," I teased.
He dropped his hand into my lap. "Handy, really? I'll have to see what else I can do for you tonight."

The driver pulled over in front of my hotel and yelled the price back to us. Once again, Justin wouldn't let me pay. I argued, but he was not having it. He paid and I led him into the hotel, crossing the lobby with my hand tucked in his.

At the reception desk, I glanced and caught the woman at the counter smirking at me. She's been watching me come and go alone for the last three weeks. She knows exactly what I’m doing tonight. I ignored her and headed for the elevators.

Justin brushed my hand away from the buttons, not letting me press to go up. He hit the down arrow instead.

"Have you seen the garage they have under here?" he asked.

"What are you talking about? Why does the garage matter?" I asked, annoyed that he is wasting our time.
An elevator arrived and he pulled me on, ignoring my questions and pressing “G3.”

The doors closed. "Justin, what are you doing?" I asked again, secretly curious at his surprise.

He smiled devilishly. "Just what I said, showing you their garage."

The doors were opening already, into a dimly lit parking garage as promised. Beyond the elevator doors on the left, the wall was painted green with a huge, white "G3" in the middle of it. Justin led me out, the clapping of our shoes echoing almost endlessly in the quiet space. There was no one else down here, unless they were sleeping in their car, otherwise we would hear them.

We wound through the rows of cars on a mission that I didn't yet understand. I have no clue what he is looking for, but he hasn't found it yet. When we had reached the furthest wall, the most private corner down here, he slowed, still ignoring my pleas. His eyes are on the cars, searching.

Finally, he stopped. "This will do," he said, pulling me in between a Chevy Silverado that looked like it was three feet off the ground and a white Alfa Romeo 8C Spider. He pulled me all the way in against the wall at the front of both vehicles, pressing me up against it lightly.

"And what do you think we can do here?" I asked, my voice screaming with excitement and lust despite my words. I don't know what he's thinking, but I desperately want to.

"I think you liked it in the bathroom at the grill," he said. "I think this place is a perfect mix of private and public to see how much you really like sex in a public place. And I think you need to prepare that warrior in you, because in a few minutes your screams of pleasure are going to echo and fill this entire room. You need to be ready because you're about to be fucked on the hood of a strangers Alfa Romeo until either you or the car break down."

FUN FACTS:

AUTHOR BIO:
New Indie Author with my first Romance novel, Charity's Warrior, published on Amazon Kindle, Creatspace, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords. The next novel in the series, Charity's Secrets is due for Dec. 2013, and I'm very excited to get it out there.

I'm very passionate about writing stories full of love, lust, eroticism, and strong characters entwined around each other in an interesting, suspenseful journey.

East coast born and raised, I'm married, extremely happily, with 4 kids, 3 of which are now young adults (not sure when that happened).

I’m a COO in my technology-based "day job,” which requires a mix of technical and creative writing for both internal and client-facing materials, but it was not satisfying my artistic spirit. Starting the “Charity” series has been absolutely fulfilling and exciting.

My favorite writing takes place on my phone while lying on the Southernmost Beach in Key West, where I try to go at least twice a year.
